Dreaming of a Glacier National Park elopement? Imagine saying your vows on the shore of a crystal-clear lake, with jagged peaks, wildflower meadows and one of the most famous mountain drives in the world all around you. We’ve had the best time photographing couples in Glacier, and we’re here to walk you through everything you need to know: the best time of year, how to apply for your permit, where to say “I do,” and how to plan a day that makes the most of every view. Let’s dive in!

ToggleGlacier has a little bit of everything: turquoise lakes, glacier-carved valleys, waterfalls, wildflowers and peaks in every direction. Even better, many of its most iconic views are right off the road, so you can soak in epic scenery without a long hike. Every stop feels like a whole new world, and that’s what makes it so special for an elopement.

The season you choose shapes your whole Glacier experience, mostly because of one famous road. The Going-to-the-Sun Road winds right through the heart of the park, and its high section is only open part of the year.
Our recommendation: book your date while the Going-to-the-Sun Road is open, typically early July through mid-October.

To say “I do” in Glacier, you’ll need a Special Use Permit from Glacier National Park, whether it’s just the two of you or you’re bringing your favorite people along. Glacier’s wedding permits take a little longer to process than other national parks, so we recommend applying as soon as you know your date (you can apply up to 12 months ahead). Don’t worry, we’ll help you through every step!
While I can’t submit your application for you, I’ll give you everything you need to fill it out, including your ceremony site and time and backup options. You won’t be figuring it out alone.

Glacier has 32 approved ceremony sites, from intimate pullouts for 10 people to amphitheaters for 250. Here are our favorites, which also happen to be some of the most iconic views in the park.
Our top pick! Lake McDonald has several approved sites right on the shore, with colorful rocks at your feet and mountains rising across the water. A ceremony here sets up the rest of your day beautifully, with plenty of time to head up the Going-to-the-Sun Road for portraits afterward. Planning an evening ceremony? Choose a shoreline site, since amphitheaters wrap up by 6 pm in the summer.

The most iconic view in Glacier, with the whole mountain range sprawled out in front of you, right off the road. Big Bend fits up to 10 people (your photographer and officiant included), which makes it perfect for an intimate elopement, and it’s our favorite place to end the day at sunset. It’s open while the high section of the Going-to-the-Sun Road is, typically early July through mid-October.

Perched above St. Mary Lake on the east side of the park, Sun Point has room for up to 20 people. Plan to be here in the late afternoon, when the water glows a bright, beautiful blue. It’s available from early June through mid-October.

Home to some of the most beautiful lakes in the park, with approved sites around Swiftcurrent Lake and Lake Josephine. It’s about two and a half hours from West Glacier, so it’s perfect if you’d love to make it its own part of your trip.
Heads up for 2027: the Two Medicine sites are closed for construction through May 2027, and the St. Mary Amphitheater is expected to reopen in July 2027.
Glacier is big, and part of the fun of planning is fitting all of your favorite spots into one day. The park has its own little quirks: the drives between spots can be long (Sun Point to Lake McDonald is about an hour and 20 minutes), and the sun slips behind the peaks in the evening, so the light works a little differently than you might expect.
That’s where we come in! We plan your timeline around the park’s light and drive times, so you’re at each spot when it looks its best: Lake McDonald for your ceremony, Sun Point while the water is glowing blue, and Big Bend as the sun goes down. You get to relax and soak in every view, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Most of our Glacier elopements are about 6 hours and end at sunset. If you’d love getting-ready photos too, we’ll add a little extra time, since most Airbnbs are about an hour from the park. Here’s an example for a mid-July day, when the sun sets around 9:35 pm. Every timeline we create is custom, built around your date, your favorite spots and the light, so yours will be even more personal.
